The grapes for this wine were grown in the most southern region of Marche called the “Superiore” which is considered to be the best place to cultivate the 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese utilized in the wine. The grapes are hand harvested from the oldest vines then undergo traditional fermentation and maceration in stainless steel for a period of two weeks followed by 18-24 months aging in French oak casks.
Picus has an intense ruby red color and a rich taste of red berries and dark fruits, with nuances of cherries and sweet spices such as cinnamon and licorice. It’s medium-bodied, and well-balanced with a long finish. A perfect partner to red roasted meats, game, and seasoned cheeses. Serve at room temperature after decanting or allowing to breathe for 20 minutes.
